AMEX card holders like to travel. While there are exceptions to everything, the cards offered by American Express, especially their top-tier cards, offer incentives and perks to those who travel often. You know what people are not doing during COVID-19? Traveling often.
In response, American Express has been the front runner in adaptation. The shared goal here is to provide value where it may not otherwise exist without travel. If you can make use of the credits below, you’ll stand to earn over $1,000 in statement credits this quarter.
AMEX has introduced a pair of statement credits beginning May 1 and lasting through December 2020. First, a $20 monthly statement credit on streaming services (think Apple Music, Netflix, Hulu, etc.) as well as an additional $20 monthly statement credit on your cellphone bill for the same time period. If you take full advantage, that’s $320 back in your pocket by year end!
Beginning today, June 1, you can use your Hilton Aspire’s $250 resort credit at US restaurants! This is a tremendous offering on what is normally a logistically challenging credit to redeem. Make sure to complete your full $250 in spend before the credits stop in August 2020.
In addition, the Hilton cards are offering 12X points at US Supermarkets through July 2020. Using TPG’s valuations, that means you’ll earn 7.2% in Hilton Honors points.
The Green Card has had a smaller overlapping credit of $10/month added. If you’re using your Platinum Card for this already, disregard this offer unless you can split your bill. But for those without the Platinum card, you can enjoy this $10 monthly statement credit May-December 2020 and earn $80 by year end!
Though I don’t carry them, there are some other AMEX cards offering higher earn rates at US Supermarkets. The Delta SkyMiles cards now earn 4X miles and the Marriot Bonvoy cards now earn 6X points at US Supermarkets (up to $7,500). For both promotions, it is valid May-July 2020 and is the equivalent of 4.8% back in points based on TPG’s valuations.
Thanks to American Express’ ability to stay nimble during COVID-19, I will not be cancelling any of my cards this year; even the travel ones. While I may not earn as high of rewards as I typically would, I will more than breakeven on annual fees with assistance from credits such as these.
